Have you ever considered fostering?

H.A.R.T. Homeless Animal Rescue Team relies heavily on volunteers who are willing to foster rescue dogs in their homes until good homes can be found for them, or until they can be transported to another rescue.

Fostering is a wonderful, rewarding experience, and we encourage anyone who is considering it to please contact us and try it out.

There are short term fosters: a few days to a couple weeks.
There are long term fosters: the dog stays with you until it is found a home.

You choose the dogs that you foster.

When you foster a dog, you bring that dog into your home, sometimes directly from the shelter.
You offer that dog everything that it has been missing: a bath, some attention, and socialization.
We ask that you monitor the dogs behavior: is it good with cats? Kids? Knows commands? Etc.
We will put any of your information that you have about the dog on it's Petfinder ad, giving potential adopters much needed information about the dog.

If you are willing to housebreak a puppy, it's chance for adoption improves TREMENDOUSLY.

The rescue dog, being in a home setting, has a MUCH higher chance of being adopted!

There is something SO rewarding about taking a rescue dog into your home, giving it some much needed love, and then watching it go to a perfect forever family where it will be loved and cared for. YOU CAN MAKE AN AMAZING DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF A RESCUE DOG.

Hello all of my animal loving friends:

I come to all of you with a heavy heart as the result of an incident of horrible animal abuse and neglect which has left a 6 month old poodle near death.

This egregious act of cruelty was discovered last Thursday by a young couple who retrieved the puppy from people who had adopted her from the shelter and then just put her in the back yard and forgot about her and left her to die. The woman allowed her to take her and she has been under Dr. Ball's care since Thurs last week.
Every bone in her little body is exposed and very little muscle mass left. If she did not have fur she would be nothing but a skeleton.

HART (Homeless Animals Rescue Team) called me to go pick her up as the rescuer could not keep her anymore but so far her bill is over 300.00 and still rising. This is a young couple who can not afford this expense but their heart said they could not just let them put her to sleep, she deserved to live so she asked Dr. Ball to save her life. She then contacted HART and asked if they would take her and Lorraine of course said yes.

I am now fostering her and Doc is unable to tell if she can see or not, she was totally unresponsive when she was taken to the office, she was covered in fox tails, emaciated, dehydrated and her temperature was only 96, and a healthy dogs temps run around 101, her body was cold to the touch and doc was not sure if he could save her or not. Now here we are 1 week later, she has gained .6 lbs, not 6 lbs, but .6.

She is being hand fed with a syringe as she can not even lap her food yet. (I am pretty good at this, just ask my Sweet William):-)

There appears to be some neurological damage, extent unknown at this time. She is a 6 mo. old baby and should be into everything but she can not keep her eyes open, barely hold her head up due to this neglect.

The good news is that the Shelter has been to see Doc and have filed papers to charge these sub humans with animal cruelty, and with the family's testimony hopefully these people will be charged with felony animal abuse and neglect. Will keep everyone posted on that outcome as I become informed on it.

Now for the reason for the email. I am asking for some help to pay this bill. This young couple did the right thing but it will be a huge financial hardship for them to have to pay this bill and it will also be a huge hit on the HART account. If you can spare a few dollars and would like to help us with this bill you can send a check to:

This is one little girl due to the care and concern of the one person being in the right place at the right time doing the right thing by removing her from the situation who will now go on to live a full life in the loving arms of someone who cares. She is now in Ridge's arms asleep in the recliner, full belly and about to be taken into my arms for even more loving.

HART is holding a "High 5 for $5 Felines" adpoption event on November 26 at the Washington Petco. There will be about 20 cats and kittens age five months and older, all of them waiting to be someone's best friend. Open your home to a rescued cat and save a life!

H.A.R.T. receives donation for public spay/neuter program

H.A.R.T. recently received a very generous donation, of which $5000.00 is to be used for our new very low cost spay/neuter program!

Please check back soon for details, and we hope to have this program up and running shortly.
Our goal is to be able to spay/neuter at least 100 pets for those owners who can only manage to pay a small amount. There will be no qualification process, but we do request that you only ask for assistance if it is needed. This program is for the public, please no rescues or shelters.

The program will be announced soon and is on a first come, first serve basis, so if you know of anyone who needs assistance, please contact us!

I will never bring about world peace.
I won't singlehandedly save the rain forest.
I am not a brain surgeon, and I will never transplant an organ to save a life.
I don't have the ear of a powerful politician or world power.
I can't end world hunger.
I am not a celebrity, and God knows I am not glamorous!

There are a lot of things I will never do or become...

But today, I placed a dog!

It was a small scared bundle of flesh and bones that was dropped off in a shelter by people that didn't care what happened to it, but yet were responsible for it's very existence in the first place.

I found it a home, a FOREVER HOME!

It now has contentment and an abundance of love.
A warm place to sleep and plenty to eat.
Two little boys have a warm and fuzzy new friend who will love them unquestioning, and teach them about responsibility and love.
A wife and mother has a new spirit to nurture and care for.
A husband and father has a companion to sit at his feet at the end of a hard day of work and help him relax and enjoy life.

No, I am not a rocket scientist...but TODAY I made a DIFFERENCE!

Rescue at Dolan Springs

A few weeks ago, H.A.R.T. got a call for help with a hoarding situation in Arizona. A woman with several dogs had to move off her property and was in desperate need for help with her dogs.

With support from several other rescue groups in the area, including FIAS, Cedar Animal Rescue, We Care for Animals, and Best Friends, H.A.R.T. traveled to Arizona in our van to see how we could help.

After assessing the situation, we knew that we could only make a dent in the amount of help she needed, but we were there to do whatever we possibly could.

None of the dogs there were spayed or neutered, which was causing a huge problem with puppies. We decided to take all of the puppies, knowing that we had help waiting for us with the other rescue groups to care for the puppies.

We had also decided early on, to take as many of the female dogs as we possibly could, and to leave the males for next time.

So by the time our van was ready to make the trek back to Utah, we had loaded up 26 puppies, ranging in age from 5 weeks to 8 weeks, and 8 female dogs.

We had a wonderful group of volunteers waiting for us at the Ivins Animal Shelter when we returned.
Cedar Animal Rescue took a mama dog with her 5 little pups, and 2 of the younger female dogs.
Ivins agreed to take 18 of the puppies for 2 weeks till they could be transported to a rescue in California.

We had quite the assembly line going for those puppies... take their photo, give them a name (we used almost every letter of the alphabet), vaccinate them, record it all, and kennel them.

After getting the puppies settled in, we sent the other 5 girls and 3 pups off to their new H.A.R.T. foster homes, where they would stay until adoption.

Before the 2 week transport date to California, the Ivins shelter had adopted out ALL 18 PUPPIES. How amazing is that?!

To date, one of the adult female dogs has also been adopted.

Thank you SO much to all of the wonderful volunteers, and to the other rescues who jumped in to help with the rescue. Together we can make great things happen!

There are still several dogs there that need help, and hopefully we can get out there again to take some more dogs, and to get her the help with spaying/neutering the dogs we are unable to take, so that she doesn't end up in the same situation that she was in before.

2nd graders make a difference!

4-8-2010

The 2nd graders of Merryhill School in Las Vegas held a fundraiser for H.A.R.T., and collected over 400 lbs of dog food for us! It was absolutely amazing, and so wonderful to see what those kids accomplished.
Wade and I went to their school to accept their donation, and we took Aimee with us. She was the hit of the day! She was wonderful with all the kids, and we were able to raise awareness of animal abuse as well as animal rescue while were there.
The day was wonderful, and H.A.R.T. wants to say thanks again to these wonderful students and their teachers.

Aimee needs your help.

Sweet Aimee... suffering with a broken pelvis for nearly 2 months, and never complaining. When she came to us she was a happy fun-loving pup, with a smile and a heart of gold. One would have never guessed that she was in pain. But her funny little walk prompted us to take her into the WFVC for a check up.

X-Rays revealed a broken pelvis that had started to heal badly. The broken bones and arthritis were causing Aimee to not put any weight on her leg, resulting in a leg that had almost no muscle mass. Doc said that the injury was caused by 'severe trauma'. I can't even imagine what this poor girl went through.

After some discussion about what was best for Aimee, they decided to keep her overnight, and perform surgery the very next day.
We got to bring Aimee home 2 days after surgery, and she is doing SO great! She is putting weight on her leg, and is on the road to complete recovery!

Thank you SO much to the Washington Family Veterinary Clinic for taking such good care of Aimee!

As you can imagine, the surgery to repair Aimee's broken pelvis was very costly.
We are asking for your help with her vet bill so that we can continue helping other animals who have been neglected and abused. Any amount that you can donate will help!

Santa Clara Swiss Days

H.A.R.T. participated in the Swiss Days Parade today with 10 adoptable dogs! It was quite the experience, and was a lot of fun!
The dogs were tired by the end of the parade, but they really did enjoy all the attention.

We had:
Zena, our little warrior princess
Mikey, our big furry teddy bear shepherd
Amara, our sweetheart
Jack, our new boy.. and quite the crowd pleaser!
Jaxson, our gentle little boy
Big Red, our gorgeous vocal Coonhound
Broozer, our sweet guy
Cassie, our energetic sweet gal
Calamity Jane, our baby girl
and Scribbles, our adorable little beagle boy.

We were quite the sight, parading down the road with our crew of volunteers and our lovable dogs. So many people, so many things to see and to smell, so many sounds, and the dogs were GREAT. I was so impressed with them.

Spent a couple hours at the park after the parade, and visited with SO many people. The dogs adore the attention and love that they get from everyone.

Thank you everyone who supported us, and for everyone who stopped by to say hi and to give our furry friends a skritch behind the ears.

It was a fabulous day!

A wonderful day for adoptions!

We had an adoption event at the PetCo here on Saturday, and it was a great success! We met so many great people today!

3 of our wonderful dogs were adopted at the event! Mr. ChiChi Bently, the long haired Chihuahua; Cubby, our new little Terrier mix; and our little Pixie!
Also, a family who was interested in Oscar, the Golden Retriever, fixed their back yard fence after leaving the event, and we took Oscar to them today!

4 dogs adopted! That is amazing and fantastic. What a wonderful day.

Thank you SO much to all of our volunteers who helped throughout the day. We couldn't have done it without you. You are all amazing!

H.A.R.T. (Homeless Animal Rescue Team) would like to ask your help to raise $5000.00 in 30 Days for our very low cost Spay/Neuter Campaign.

We are in need of a very low cost Spay/Neuter program for animals in Washington County. Every day thousands of animals are killed in shelters throughout the Country, including right here in Washington County. These figures could be significantly reduced if more people were able to afford to have their pets spayed or neutered.

We need $5 from 1,000 people in 30 days! Please pass this message on to 5 people, and ask them to pass it on to 5 people, and so on. The more people that this message reaches, the greater our chances will be of reaching our goal.

Our goal is very simple: by raising $5000 we will be able to have over 100 animals spayed/neutered that would otherwise not be fixed, due to their owners not being able to afford the cost of the procedure.

Today we went to Bone Appetit and All Fur Love in Washington and set up in the parking lot of their businesses for our second food distribution event and adopt-a-thon.
Only our second time out, and already we did SO much better than our first venture!

We had 5 pallets of dog food that had been donated to us by Best Friends Animal Society that we were distributing to the families of Washington County, and gave almost all of it away in only 3 hours. We were so amazed at the many many people who came to get some dog food and to see our adoptable dogs.

We had many volunteers there who worked very hard handing out dog food, and also helping with our dogs that we had available for adoption.

First and foremost, we'd like to thank Best Friends Animal Society for the donation of dog food, and for all their support so far. They are amazing, and we can't thank them enough.

We'd also like to thank Amy, Bree, and Alice from All Fur Love, and also Natalie from Bone Appetit for offering us their space to use, and also for being there and giving us their help as well. Even though the grooming tables were closed for the day, Amy bathed Mikey for us, as we had brought him straight from the shelter and he was in desperate need of a bath.

Natalie from Bone Appetit donated goodie bags to send home with anyone who adopted a dog. The bags were great and I'm so glad that we got to give one out!

Little Emma got adopted by a fantastic family. She is officially HART's first adopted dog. WOO HOO! Thank you to the Thurstons for opening their hearts and their home to this special little gal.

Andrea from BAM (Because Animals Matter) was also there with Bear, and it was great to have her join us today!

Thank you SO much to everyone who donated to HART. We got some great donations, including a substantial check from Worry Free Pool Service here in St George. MANY Thanks to our supporters. We are off to a great start with such amazing generosity from our community.

What an AMAZING day!

We started with a bang! Our first board meeting (organizational meeting), to our first big entrance into the public eye ...was only about 10 days. (WOW!)

Today was absolutely AMAZING.
HART received a donation of dog food from Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab. They are an awesome rescue group, with some incredible resources that they are willing to share with the little guys (us).
And I'm not talking a little bit of dog food.
16 pallets of dog food at about 1000 lbs each. (WOW!)

We decided to donate that dog food back to the community. We have 3 dates set, the first of which was today.

In only 3 hours we handed out about 6000 lbs of dog food to residents of Washington County. (WOW!)
We had flyers that had been passed out, as well as radio public service announcements. Almost everyone who showed up said that they had heard it on the radio, and the ad was AWESOME.

We held the food distribution at the St George shelter today. 1 dog was adopted and went home, and 2 others are 'waiting' there for their new families to come pick them up. 1 cat was also adopted today as well!

It is just so amazing, and I am blessed to be a part of this wonderful adventure!
We have a lot of work yet to do, and I love every minute of it.

HART is a new group in Southern Utah.
We are a non-profit organization. We rescue dogs from the local shelters and keep them in foster homes till forever homes can be found for them.

We are also concentrating on educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering their dogs.
